Neuro Rehabilitation

Rehabilitation to help people regain function and independence after neurological illness.

Overview

Neurological conditions such as stroke, Parkinson's disease and nerve or muscle disorders can affect movement, balance, thinking and everyday activities.

Neuro rehabilitation is a structured programme of therapy and guidance that aims to improve function, prevent complications and help people become as independent as possible.

When to consider this clinic

  • Weakness or stiffness after a stroke or other neurological illness
  • Difficulty walking, balance problems or falls
  • Reduced ability to carry out daily tasks such as dressing or bathing
  • Memory or concentration difficulties after a stroke or brain injury

Having one or more of these does not by itself mean you have a particular condition. A doctor's assessment is needed to find the cause.

What happens at your visit

  1. An assessment of your abilities, difficulties and goals.
  2. A personalised plan, which may include physiotherapy, balance training, cognitive exercises and home exercises.
  3. Regular review of your progress.

Who may benefit

  • People recovering from a stroke
  • People with Parkinson's disease or other movement disorders
  • People with nerve or muscle conditions
  • Families and caregivers who want to support recovery at home

How to prepare

It helps to bring:

  • Comfortable clothing and footwear suitable for exercise
  • Any walking aids, splints or braces you currently use
  • Previous medical reports, prescriptions and hospital discharge summaries
  • MRI or CT scan films and reports, if you have them
  • A list of all the medicines you take, with their doses
  • A short note of your symptoms: when they started, how often they happen and what makes them better or worse

What happens next

  • Your therapy plan will be adjusted as you progress.
  • A home exercise programme may be provided so you can continue between sessions.

Recommendations depend on the clinician's assessment of your individual situation. This website cannot diagnose your condition or guarantee a particular result.
